They took the lead on the second lap and led at the record speed. Their pace took a toll and they retired in the 17th hour with an overheating engine. Campaigned by Shelby American Inc. Drivers in the 1967 Daytona 24 hours were Dan Gurney and A.J. Foyt. Did not finish after a connecting rod failure.

Drivers in the 1966 24 hours of Le Mans race were Ken Miles and Denny Hulme. Finished in second place. This car is very similar to the body used on the Mega-G chassis. There are slight differences in the paint, note the small dots surrounding the side windows, the number roundel on the front hood is slightly more toward the nose and the body color is just a little darker.

The 1967 Ford GT40 Mk IV #9 was on the J-9 chassis which was specifically crafted as a Group 7 Can-Am racer. It featured a powerful 3-valve, all-alloy 427 Ford V8 engine—an engineering marvel designed for blistering performance. In fact, after testing the car, legendary driver Mario Andretti said the J-9 one of the “scariest cars” he had ever driven.
